Default Terrorism vs security

The world, a wonderful creation of the Almighty!! He made us humans to live on this earth, in harmony with other creatures that he created. But we are the worst of the kind, as we go about destroying things around us. We kill beautiful animals for their hides, tusks, or just for our wicked entertainment. Trees are chopped off mercilessly to make way for our so called “development”. So man goes about destroying flora, fauna and practically everything that his wicked mind fancies. What could be worse than the fact that we have now turned against each other and started destruction of human race and humanity?
Terrorism is a bug that has bitten mankind so badly that he is not in a mood of proper reasoning and thoughts. The bug has paralyzed the brain, shunning its ability to think clearly. Or else would the man resort to such dastardly act and kill his fellow beings?
We have seen terrorism spread like wild fire all over the globe. Recently, when the most influential city in our country, Mumbai was attacked, there was much ado about the security system in our country. There were many allegations made regarding the nexus between the law makers/keepers & law breakers. Thus the question remains in the common man’s mind whether his life is secure being entrusted in the hands of security personnel like our police department, forces, etc.

When top security people were killed in the terror attacks, the politicians came under the line of fire from the commoners. That how come all the 3 top brass officers in the police department travelled together in the same jeep and were killed by the terrorists? When the major drama was taking place at the Taj hotel, Oberoi Trident & Nariman House, why and on whose orders did these 3 officers head for Cama hospital? The media and the common man, alike, are clueless as to what transpired at that moment, which spelt doom for the fearless officers.

The government was on the verge of taking a stance of waging war against Pakistan, as they are the main suspects in the happening. The government got an inkling that the movement had started across the border, towards our direction. So now the question is, can war be the solution of national safety? Take the example of United States, after 9/11, they waged a war against Afghanistan under the pretext of hunting the mastermind, Osama bin Laden. They waged a war against Iraq in order to capture the then major threat, Saddam Hussein. And what did they gain? Absolutely nothing!!! Many innocent lives were lost, major destruction of property ensued, economy took a major tumble and resources & reserves were drained over futile causes.
If war was a solution to these crisis and insecurity, every other country would have attacked its neighbour to avoid the threat of infringement. And now with nuclear war heads at each one’s disposal, it would not be far from us destroying the God’s creation within no time.

It is about time we give this problem a serious thought and try & come up with a more viable solution. If each individual decides to be a conscientious citizen of the country, then we will not be prompted to fall prey to temptations and sell our souls for a paltry sum and turn against our brethren. I say “paltry”, even though the terrorists may receive hefty amounts to carry out these heinous acts, is because nothing is more precious than your life and a clear conscience. The fight for terrorism starts at the root level that is, every common man is responsible for his own safety. Be more alert and vigilant and try to curb violence right from its minor form. Domestic violence, communal discord, campus wars, gang wars are all but many faces of “terrorism”, albeit in a smaller outfit. When we learn to protect ourselves, we muster courage to help others. When a community or society has the secure feeling, it spreads across to the city, country and the whole world. Self protection is best protection and if we all follow this, there will not be any issue of terrorism versus security.
