Default Need for change

After the Mumbai terrorist attack, there was a lot of furor over the state’s administration and security system. Allegations were flung at the ruling party and the politicians, citing their inability to rise to the occasion and provide proper protection to the citizens.
Now the Home minister, the chief minister, his deputy have all resigned or made to resign over the unfortunate event. But is this the solution to such situation? Certainly not!!! Our administrative system is such, where the goons and the bigwigs are bosom pals. Most of the parties are funded during election by none other than some notorious underworld dons, and once in power, they put up an innocent face and talk big about eradicating terrorism. But in reality they are ones who protect & encourage terrorists.
The common man is made a scapegoat and made to suffer in the bargain.
New ministers come, they make some more promises and the common man is fooled again into believing that the situation will change for the better. But after repeated onslaught and humiliations, we are not spared the agony of being victimized over & over again.
Why is it that the nation is unable to get non-corrupt and honest leaders? Basically I feel that there is a dearth of honest people who have the leadership qualities and the will to govern the nation. Leaders like the respected ex-president Mr. Abdul Kalam are pushed away as the bureaucracy found him to be a spoke in the wheel.
It is about time that we, as nation’s bonafide citizens, vote sanely and elect a youthful leader who has the capacity to lead India of tomorrow in an unbiased and non-corrupt manner.
It is also very painful to note that many a times the persons who are entrusted with the duty of protecting others are letting us down in a big way. They may be from Police department, Army, Navy or Air force. Corruption is so deep rooted in the forces, that for a few pennies, they do not hesitate to sell their conscience. The dons of underworld keep them happy by throwing wads of cash in front of them, as one would throw a bone to a dog. And just as the dog keeps licking that bone and shows loyalty to his master, these shameless officers too show loyalty to their “master” ……….only their choice and loyalty falls in wrong place.
But it will be unfair to assume that all these traitors sail in the same boat. There are instances as seen during the recent attacks, that a few conscientious officers don’t think twice in laying their lives for others -----fully respecting their responsibility & duty. Hats off & sincere salutations to these martyrs!!!
The need of the hour is to show solidarity and find a fool-proof solution to overcome the issue of terrorism. It will not be easy, as the roots of terrorism have been spread wide and deep. To fully uproot them will take time and courage………but remember, the fight MUST go on.
