Default What a shame!! Proud to be an Indian?

Well, this title was planned to attract attention. But fellow readers analyze it CAREFULLY. The SHAME is not for BEING Indian, but to ACT in a manner that brings shame to our country!!

26th January, 2009…….India celebrated its 60th Republic day. India became free from British rule and became a Democratic Republic country on 26th January, 1950.
Every year we celebrate this occasion with festive spirit and fervor, by organizing a Republic Day Parade in our capital city, New Delhi.
Each year several dignitaries from all over the world are invited to witness the event. This parade exhibits the true spirit of India. It showcases the military strengths, technological achievements, rich cultural display….. all which makes us very proud of our nation.
The foreign delegates enjoy the show and look upon India as a very powerful, progressing and friendly country. The typical Indian hospitality is well admired and a much talked affair. ALL this makes us hold up our head in pride and we feel grateful to be a part of this wonderful country……….WE ARE PROUD TO BE INDIANS!!!

But the recent Republic Day parade incidence brought on shame and disgust to one and all. The news papers carried the news of the royal celebrations as well as the most untoward incidence that occurred that day. In a VIP enclosure, where the security is supposed to be at its best, since it is in close proximity to the Presidential seating place, a Japanese dignitary was robbed off his valuables. Apart from losing his ID card, passport and important documents, he was relieved off his cash, credit cards, etc.
This is really very shocking, because one cannot imagine who would attempt such a bold heist amongst tight security.
When we invite any foreigners to our country to be a part of any function, it is our prime responsibility to take care of their safety as well as protect their belongings. The valuables which were stolen were not even kept in a big bag, but were a personal wallet type bag with a strap / handle. That means that it was kept very close to the place where the person was sitting, then HOW did it vanish? The lifter must have taken the advantage of a stray unguarded moment to strike. This is a very sad picture, as it reflects on the credibility of the hosts and shows the amount of callousness that is exhibited under the name of SECURITY FOR VIPS.

Honestly, who ever committed this crime did not think twice what the consequences would be. There was not a minute’s thought about the image of the country that you so dearly love. When there are such maniacs and hooligans living around, who tarnish the very revered image of India……..the image of gracious hosts, friendly & safe country, etc……..how can one face any foreigner with the same pride and confidence while saying “We are proud to be Indians”?

This is a sincere request to all who take pride in the nation, PLEASE do not attempt any crimes, especially not with the guests of our country, as it shows the nation in bad light.
There are many cases of foreign nationals (women) being looted and raped & some murdered too. These heinous crimes bring upon shame and black spot to the country’s name. In the future, people will think ten times before accepting Indian hospitality. They say that once bitten, twice shy. Indians will be looked upon with suspicion and caution.

So if you REALLY want to say “PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN” with true pride, then please act sensibly & think before you venture into any stupid acts. After all, the honor of our beloved country is at stake
